I teach it the Southern Sydney area of Sydney and am a professional guitarist with more than 12 years teaching experience working both as a private tutor, and for various music schools in the the Southern Sydney, Sutherland Shire area. I teach both electric and acoustic guitar for all styles of popular music. I welcome students of all ages, abilities, and levels of interest. Whether you’re a complete beginner, or a competent guitarist ready to take your playing to the next level, I’m sure I will be able to help you.
Outside of teaching, I have also played in a number of Sydney-based bands, with whom I have toured interstate and released a number of albums. I have played both covers and originals in a wide variety of genres including alternative rock, pop, hip hop, soul, blues, and R&B.

I would highly recommend James as a skilled and professional guitar teacher. He has been instructing my son for a year and a half, and we couldn’t be happier with his teaching. James has a remarkable ability to engage my son during their sessions, and as a result, my son’s passion for playing the guitar has flourished. He spends hours practicing after each lesson and has developed an impressive repertoire of songs and skills. Recently, he even achieved an A in his school report for music, which speaks volumes about James’ effectiveness as a teacher. We greatly appreciate James’ expertise and unwavering dedication to my son’s musical development. If you’re in search of a talented and committed guitar teacher, look no further than James.

James has been teaching my 15 yo nephew electric guitar for over a year now. James is a gifted player and even more gifted teacher. He is engaging, knowledgeable and it is a joy to hear their jam sessions.
James is happy to explore different genres with my nephew, and has helped him refine his skills and expand his repertoire, be it jazz, blues, pop or improv.
He is kind and generous, and I would recommend him to anyone looking for an engaging and skilled teacher.

Ive been getting lessons with James for about 4 years I believe. He is a really good music teacher, he knows what he’s talking about & how to implement within a lesson to suit my needs/skill set.
He will listen on what you want the lesson to include, i.e. songs/riffs to learn, music theory. But sometimes those are set as goals so maybe in a course of 3 lessons you learn other songs/sets of skills, to learn that said song/riff. Generally he likes to go through a whole song with all the parts (depending on the song) to play a song completely and not be a riff machine.
But I’m sure if you really really wanted to he will teach you just the riff.
Over your progress he will give you some options on where you would like to head / skills to improve/learn.
James is nice, calm & will help you with you guitar journey and I hope you give him a chance.

I have been getting lessons from James for 2-3 years now and have no intentions on stopping. Not only is James an amazing guitarist in all fields of popular music, he is very down to earth and easy to talk to which makes lessons far more enjoyable and easier to attend. My playing has improved dramatically over time with the help of James. He is very thorough at getting his point across. A great observer in your playing and where you need to improve and how. I would highly recommend James to any guitar player beginner- advanced.

Hi,
I’ve been getting lessons from James for 3-4 years and am really enjoying it. The lessons are always varied and we swap between electric and acoustic, depending on songs. I get an opportunity to propose songs I like and James is really good at also picking similar songs than includes passages suitable to my skill level.
The teaching is very bespoke and it is always designed to increase my skills, in the areas I’m interested in, and will benefit my playing the most.
James is excellent in determining complementary exercises so we might work on a piece with a focus on strumming technique for a tricky pattern, and have another piece with a lead line requiring other skills – in a lesson. James has also introduced music theory to me, in a way that really gave me “a-ha” and given me confidence to develop my own chord progressions, and get a greater understanding of how music is “built”.
James is a fantastic guitar player, but his main skill is to really make you understand the proper technique and areas of improvement. A strong focus on rather perfecting a simple piece than playing something more advanced, only OK – which I really enjoy.
James is very a very genuine and caring person as well and is really focussed on helping me getting the most out of my playing and being effective with my limited practice time.
It’s the most important hour of “me time” in my week – and I would recommend James to anyone who is looking to commit to improve their guitar playing and take on some great guidance.
